My first independent documentary film, "Moving In Between," follows the life journey of a transgender woman named Erika. Through the film, I document her experiences of gender transition as well as the challenges she faced with her family.
From 2020 to 2022, I directed two short films as part of "The Weirdo in Taiwan Documentary Project" supervised by renowned director Li-Chou Yang. "Fatbulous Me" features two plus-sized women challenging societal beauty standards, while "Mimi's Utopia" highlights the work of Harmony Home, which supports foreign workers and their children in Taiwan.

Unplanned or planned pregnancy could be difficult for the female migrant workers in Taiwan. When they become the undocumented migrant workers due to various reasons, their children are left in a state of limbo where there is no system to protect them. For more than ten years, Nicole Yang’s foundation, Harmony Home, has been the halfway home for over 700 migrant workers and their children with such problems. The residents call Nicole “Mimi”, which means mother. Despite the criticism of harboring illegal migrants, Nicole still believes in mutual help without distinction.

'Being fat' often has negative connotations and is seen as a state that needs to be changed. Amy and Mallie suffered much frustration before learning to live in harmony with their bodies and advocating for body equality.

When working in Tokyo, Erika embarks on the journey of stepping outside the role prescribed by her biological sex and relieving the suppressed feminine self. This film documents Erika's life journey of gradually building up her ideal body image, including the sexual reassignment surgery (SRS). Through Erika's experience moving between Japan and Taiwan, as well as male and female identities, the film sheds light on the unique life experience of transgender people.
